With the prices doubling at the end of the week at Camping Costa de Levante, we decided to move on. Of course, the temperature had the same idea and decided to turn it up a notch or two, just to keep things interesting.
In desperate need of walking sandals and flip-flops, our first stop was Decathlon, the mecca of budget-friendly sportswear. Then, it was off to Lidl for groceries, where I was sorely tempted to take up residence in the freezer aisle, If only they allowed camping in there, we’d have our heatwave solution! Topped up with GPL at the conveniently located garage next door, we were all set for another sweltering day.
Over the next few days the temperature keeps rising daily, so I put my foot down and refuse to go any further south. Seriously, it’s like the sun was having a competition with itself to see how much it could roast us alive. We explored all avenues: staying on the campsite longer, renting an apartment for a few weeks, but the costs outweighed the benefits. And don’t even get me started on all the well-meaning advice from people. “Oh, my friend’s renting for €650 a month in August.” Really? Because even our lovely Spanish neighbour Ana couldn’t find anything in that price bracket. Are they renting a broom cupboard? I am starting to think these friends might be imaginary.
With the decision made to head back up north it was a grueling six-hour drive, before we finally arrived at Camping del Mar in Malgrat. This place is definitely more upmarket, which is a nice way of saying it’s way more expensive than what we’re used to. But hey, at least it’s cooler here—temperature-wise, if not financially.
So here we are, another day, another campsite. The sea is still blue, the shower block is still… well, a shower block, and the pitches are still places to park our weary selves. Onward to the next overpriced, sun-soaked destination.

Camping Costa de Levante, Nules, not quite the Maldives, but wet and salty

Just a short walk to the beach in Nules which is a combination of pebbles and stones

A walk along the sea front where the locals are trying to catch their dinner

A walk to the near by market where we purchase a large throw to try and block the sun out

The tomatoes are huge and taste fresh

The Shower Block at Costa de Levante is just functional ish either the shower lever is broke or the doors don’t shut, and you get the company of a frog in the drain that pops it head up and down every so often

We are either woken by our near by neighbours prowling around at 3am having a shower or the arrival of the Von trapp family setting up camp early next morning, so it’s time to move again

Càmping Del Mar, Malgrat de Mar is definitely more up market but the welcome bag we are given still doesn’t soften the price

Lovely sunset in Malgrat de Mar

Spanish crystal bread for lunch today

Our son Chay spent so time in L’Estratit several years ago so we stop off to see the bar where he worked and had a cocktail

Slightly different to when Chay worked here, Cocktails and Dreams is now O’Malleys

O’Malleys next to the port in L’Estratit
We have a seasonal pitch at Cypsela just south of L’Estartit!
Oh do you that’s interesting. What time of year do you go? We really liked that part of the coast but unfortunately not in this heat
