I really enjoyed this book, it is the story of two women who are second wives of two brothers in an Italian family. This novel explores the psychological issues of second marriages, and the hardships and the darker side of a marriage. The novel is set in 2016, in the Brighton area of the UK.

“Lara’s life looks perfect on the surface. Gorgeous doting husband Massimo, sweet little son Sandro and the perfect home. Lara knows something about Massimo. Something she can’t tell anyone else or everything Massimo has worked so hard for will be destroyed: his job, their reputation, their son. This secret is keeping Lara a prisoner in her marriage.”

“Maggie is married to Massimo’s brother Nico and lives with him and her troubled stepdaughter. She knows all of Nico’s darkest secrets – or so she thinks. Then one day she discovers a box in the attic which reveals a shocking secret about Nico’s first wife Caitlin. Will Maggie set the record straight or keep silent to protect those she loves?”

There was a reality about this story that made uncomfortable reading at times but always within context. So many women fall into the trap that Lara did, seeing possessiveness and control as love.

It’s the first one  I have read by Kerry Fisher and it won’t be my last! Thanks to Tracey who gave me the book x
